The Super Game Industry Problem
We’re entering the age of the super game which can be a problem because they also need to provide super returns. Not good returns…super returns.
It’s rumored that the next GTA game has a budget of over 1.5 Billion Dollars.
Sega announced that their next game has a budget of 800 Million dollars.
Another game from Bungie, Destiny 2, is considered a AAA game and they are also seeing growing pains. Because it currently does not qualify as a super game.
Marathon is likely a Bungie and Sony Super game bet.
What are the results of new super games being funded?
Middle core gaming is going to become like middle class America…it won’t exist. You won’t see as many great 25-100m games. Instead you’ll see the 8m and under games and then the 500m plus games. Very few in between. Which means more jobs lost, but new startup innovation.
Here’s an example of a middle core game in development suffering from the team behind 100 Thieves:
This is where we believe games like Roblox and Fortnite become interesting. As well as other games that allow for UGC.
The next game startup frontier maybe inside a super game.
Assuming GTA 6 has UGC tooling, we wouldn’t be surprised to see games being funded by VCs through UGC in the GTA 6 ecosystem.
Premium Mobile Growth
If you aren’t a super game than maybe you’re a super mobile game? It seems likely that the same rules apply. This is because you’re seeing super game devs releasing IP onto the mobile device.
With Blizzcon coming this week, Blizzard Entertainment just released a new mobile title in the World of Warcraft universe called “Warcraft Rumble”
We recorded the first 10 minutes of our FTUE. It is high caliber and we are enjoying the game so far. We may give more detailed notes later.
Crypto Onchain Mobile Games?
There is a new gamified art experiment that has hit web3 called Draw.Tech it is a side loaded web app.
These are the basics for Draw Tech from @0xsmallbrain this is a new onchain game on mobile with @BuildOnBase
DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH BEFORE USING IT
Make an account and fill with minimal eth, but it must be bridged Base Eth @BuildOnBase website to use bridge. Send base to the account the app gives you.
1. Read the rules: The goal of the game is simple, spend a lot of money to own the game board and draw what you want on top of another player, The more tiles you have the more rewards and rep you can claim. Your artwork does not live forever.
One interesting game rule is the game board is supposedly set to grow larger. Think of these as rounds. So if you have the board at end of round you might claim more rewards. I could be wrong here it was my interpretation.
So you can see who is the top spender and winner: You can see be rewards claimed and by number of tiles owned. The board does refresh frequently.
4. On the bottom left are 3 interaction options:
1. Views current tile owners
2. View tile take over prices on a heat map.
3. Paintbrush and color type for when you want to make the purchase.
5.After you make a tile purchase you will start earning rewards. We have no idea how this works yet or what those rewards give. We did buy one tile and the transaction process was very smooth and fast thanks to @BuildOnBase
This was not a paid thread nor was it sponsored, I just think these gamefi experiences and experiments are cool. Good lessons can be learned from them.
